Paul Ney joined Momentus Inc. (NASDAQ: MNTS) as the Chief Legal Officer in September 2021. Momentus Inc. is a U.S. commercial space company that plans to offer transportation and other in-space infrastructure services.

In 2018, Mr. Ney was appointed General Counsel of the Department of Defense by President Donald Trump.  As the chief legal officer of the Department of Defense through early 2021, he led a legal community of over 12,000 civilian and military lawyers and he served as the principal legal advisor and counselor to five Secretaries and Acting Secretaries of Defense. He worked closely with numerous civilian and military leaders throughout the Department, with the top military lawyers, and with numerous legal counsel in the White House, Executive Branch agencies, and Congress. Additionally, he was the chief ethics official for the Department of Defense.

Immediately prior to his service as the General Counsel of the Department of Defense, Mr. Ney was the Chief Deputy Attorney General for the State of Tennessee. In that role he was responsible for supervising and coordinating the substantive legal work of the lawyers in the sixteen divisions of the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office.  Before joining the Attorney General’s Office in 2016, he was a shareholder in the Nashville firm of Patterson Intellectual Property Law, P.C. Mr. Ney received his J.D. and M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University and he is a Registered Patent Attorney.

Mr. Ney also has served as the Deputy General Counsel (Legal Counsel) for the U.S. Department of Defense, the Acting General Counsel of the Department of the Navy, the Principal Deputy General Counsel of the Department of the Navy, and the Director of the Nashville Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development. Before going to the Pentagon in 2005, Mr. Ney was a partner in the Nashville law firm of Trauger, Ney & Tuke, where he had a civil litigation practice for 20 years.
