Sonia Phares is Vice President, Engineering and Technology (E&T) for Lockheed Martin Space. In this capacity, she is responsible for leading a 11,500-person workforce comprised of engineers, scientists, technologists and mission operators nationwide. As the principal engineering and technology leader for the Space business area, Sonia oversees the engineering performance on all Space contracts, including support of military, commercial, international and national security missions, as well as maintaining a strategic portfolio of generation-after-next technologies.
Previously, Sonia was the Deputy Vice President of E&T for Lockheed Martin Space. In that role, she was directly responsible for the Spacecraft & Missile Engineering and Software Systems, Cyber and Operations functional organizations.
Before that, she served as Vice President of Software Systems, Cyber and Operations (S2CO) for Lockheed Martin Space. In that role, Sonia was responsible for the adoption of the Software Factory in Space and the roadmap to DevSecOps.
Sonia has been with Lockheed Martin for more than 30 years, holding roles of increasing responsibility from Mission Operations to Systems Engineering and Test to Program Management and Engineering leadership. Throughout her career, Sonia has led several critical initiatives for Lockheed Martin, from supporting efforts to further the digital transformation across the Corporation, the integration of 1,000 Information Systems & Global Solutions engineers into the Space business area, and leading a team of senior United Kingdom Government officials and industry leaders in the development of a cyber information sharing pilot.
Sonia graduated from Colorado Technical University with a Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering and has a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language from James Madison University. She is also a certified LM 21 Black Belt and Program Manager.
