Transforming Military Operations with Advanced Technologies
At the recent 39th Space Symposium, moderator Pacome Revillon of Novaspace talked with a panel of experts discussing the transformative impact of advanced technologies on military operations. The panel featured Major General Clint Crosier (Ret.), Director of Aerospace and Space Solutions at AWS; Lieutenant Colonel Walter Shedroff from the US Air Force; FKpt Dr. Martin Hellmann from the Bundeswehr; John Moberly, VP of Space and Chief Strategist at SpiderOak; and Evan Rogers, CEO and Co-founder of True Anomaly.
Maj. Gen. Crosier emphasized the revolutionary potential of combining space capabilities with cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI). He highlighted how these technologies can fundamentally change military strategies and operations, enabling more efficient and effective decision-making processes.
Lt. Col. Shedoff discussed the role of the National Space Defense Center in protecting and defending US space assets. He underscored the importance of command and control, space domain awareness, and defensive cyber operations in maintaining space security.
FKpt Dr. Elman provided insights from the German perspective, focusing on the integration of AI and cloud computing to enhance battlefield efficiency. He stressed the need for reliable and secure data management and the importance of physical modeling in AI applications.
John Moberly highlighted the advancements in automated target recognition and the necessity of trusted AI in national security. He pointed out the challenges of ensuring data integrity and the importance of secure data provenance throughout the information chain.
Evan Rogers discussed the evolution of warfare and the critical role of AI and cloud computing in enabling autonomous systems. He emphasized the need for robust and resilient architectures to support disaggregated and autonomous deterrence in the space domain.
The panelists collectively agreed on the importance of interoperability, security, and the integration of commercial innovations into military operations. They highlighted the need for continuous collaboration between the military and private sectors to leverage cutting-edge technologies and maintain a strategic advantage in the evolving landscape of global security.
