The Space Report 2025 Quarter 2: E-magazine

Government Space Budgets
Space spending from more than 50 nations is analyzed to assess how nations and regions are growing and reshaping plans to participate in the realm of global space.
Government space spending in 2024 experienced record-high government spending, with two-thirds of nations increasing their budgets and fostering international partnerships to enhance space programs.
Preliminary data for 2025 shows a similar pace.
Global Space Defense Spending Accelerates
Regional warfare spiked global military space spending as more nations sought sovereign military launch and satellite capabilities and commercial space services in 2024 and early 2025. Strikes targeted,
guided and controlled by satellites in Israel, Iran, Russia and the Ukraine helped escalate calls for greater government spending and spurred acquisition programs. This article also examines the latest defense spending decisions in the United States, Europe
and other regions.
Under the Hood of the Golden Dome Proposal
America's biggest missile defense move since the 1980s is poised to pay out billions for contractors that can spot, track, and destroy incoming enemy weapons from space. Orbital platforms
are the hub for or the proposed Golden Dome system, a scaled-up version of Israel's Iron Dome.
Commercial Space Sectors Continue as Economic Drivers
Key markets such as launch, satellite manufacturing, Earth observation, ground stations and equipment, and position, navigation and timing showed steady growth in 2024. This analysis examines how these sectors tie into the larger
space economy and what the market expectations are. Two key points:
- Global launch valuation grew 25% annually.
- The United States generated a 55% increase in global spacecraft manufacturing valuation.
Midyear Launch Update
Space launches in the first six months of 2025 accelerated from the record-setting 2024 pace. The frequency of liftoffs dropped another four-hour interval. SpaceX is once again holding
the launch vehicle crown, despite notable problems with its Starship program.
Private Companies Enter Orbit for EO Disaster Detection
Ultra-precise wildfire tracking, rapidly updated hurricane monitoring and even the promise of earthquake detection – all are business use cases being touted by a new host of companies entering
the weather observation market.
As Starlink Dominates, New Constellation Providers Prepare for Startup
Over the past five years, commercial communications spacecraft have dominated the payloads sent to orbit. This is largely due to SpaceX’s Starlink service. As the venture proves profitable, multiple
other massive broadband constellations are in the works, including Amazon’s Project Kuiper and three from China. The article details the physical and financial impacts of satellite internet around the world.
