Orbital Launch Sites
Located in numerous sites around the world, spaceports provide the infrastructure needed to conduct successful launch operations. This list of spaceports shows the location of the launch sites, the operators who use them, the number of launches in 2009, and the latitude of the sites. Latitude is an important consideration, as it determines how powerful a launch vehicle needs to be to put a satellite into a particular orbit. Equatorial launch sites, for example, require the least amount of energy to place a satellite into geosynchronous orbit.
